In The Beginning

Dan and Rebecca bought their home in 2012 knowing they would need to remodel for their home to reach the potential they could see in it. They got to work building a fully finished outbuilding, adding extensive landscaping, and finishing the lower level with a movie viewing area and custom bar. The next project was updating the main floor. The major stress point of the main level was an awkward space in the ceiling of the living room that was created from a previous remodel filling in the overlook wall of the previous loft. They desired for the space to have modern sophisticated clean lines and be an inviting space for entertaining and relaxing. For this project, we worked with Cocobello Interiors to create a beautiful main level for Rebecca and Dan that included remodeling the kitchen, half bath, and mudroom, along with updating the living room and deck.

About The Build

To eliminate the previous space in the ceiling and make the living room feel bigger without increasing the square feet, we took Cocobello’s design and raised the roof of the room and installed eight-foot-tall windows plus transoms to each of the new exterior walls. To bring the outside in, we doubled the size of the existing deck and added a fourteen-foot-wide Andersen folding door to the patio wall. This allows for a seamless connection between the new space and the spacious deck, making it perfect for entertaining and taking in the scenery.

The fireplace and surround quickly became the focal point of the room. The three-sided modern fireplace is accompanied by floating benches on either side and surrounded by sleek Glacier White Dekton. To cap off the Dekton, we worked with Forest Products Supply to design and install the rich, dark stained walnut mantle surround. The “fish” shaped pattern of the surround is continued into the ceiling and extends the length of the room. To add dimension to the room’s height and conceal the color changing LED rope lighting, the coffered ceiling is designed with three bays and detailed molding on the multifaceted beams.

In the kitchen, we installed a custom welded steel range hood by Red Iron Studio that included stainless steel straps and hammered steel accents. We also enameled the existing cherry cabinets and installed a wood paneled refrigerator to give the space a modern feel. To complete the main floor remodel, we updated the powder bath. We installed a combination of Silverleaf Speckle tile and Sherborne Shimmer Athens tile to create a beautifully detailed wainscot that is the perfect backdrop for the new two-tier floating vanity with a wall mounted faucet.
